Kayaking near the mouth of the Umpqua River means getting agro in all kinds of conditions! Battling tides that pull you towards the ocean or paddling against winds that blow the opposite direction of the drawing tide...and then theres the super-fun-climbing-out-of-the-muddy-bank maneuver with a kayak in tow! Big respect to our guests who chase this adventure.

This weekend, we were happy to provide an egress by sending in the Itty Bitty truck at the Dean Creek/Umpqua River junction. Time for an IPA.

Located inside the Books By the Bay bookstore, just down the street from our inn is The Grounds Cafe!

Mmmmm - with homemade pastries and awesome sandwiches and pastas, this is quite the happy spot in North Bend, Oregon, when all you want to do is find a good book and some great snacks. Chef Kristin, owner of The Grounds Cafe went to elementary school with Rik the Innkeeper - back in the late 70's. Kristin hooks up our inn's guests with discounts off of various items. If you let her know you're a guest at the inn, she might give you a free cookie...or a discount off of your meal...or a free tea...or whatever she feels like, pretty much.  Her meals and coffees are all served with big smiles!

Every now and then, we add to our bicycle inventory and sometimes deciding which kind of bike to add is a little difficult. We were stumped between choosing between new road cruisers, beach cruisers, hybrids, or mountian bikes ...and this time around the mountain bike category was added to!  So meet the newest members of our Itty Bitty Inn bicycle family!

During a camping trip, 15 miles north along Highway 101 at the Umpqua Lighthouse campground, we tested the new Cannondales on some rugged trails that circle Lake Marie. Here's some pics:

We made new friends this weekend! Here's Peter and his girlfriend who visited us on a birthday jaunt to the Oregon coast. After staying a night at the inn, they took to cruisin' alongside the 101 to visit some shoppes and take in the unseasonably sunny scene. The warm and smiley energy they brought along with them wont be forgotten.  See you again someday, dear friends!  :)

Its a dark and rainy January day today. It's perfect weather to just brew up some chai, snuggle up with a blanket, and read that book you've been saving for that day when you tell yourself that you're going to spend some "me" time.

No, wait.

Its also perfect weather to call friends over to play some Dungeons & Dragons. Roll up some characters, drink some tea, and try not to let the campaign get distracted by off topic Star Wars rants.

Either way, what bliss! -  So, we jumped on Spotify and put together some tunes for the most discriminating of book readers or Kobold slayers.

Here's Jim from the Oregon Oats Company who stopped by the inn with another delivery of oats for our guests!

Jim was introduced to the cuddly Mr. Bokins, during his visit to the inn. Thank you, Jim, for all the great work you do with the Oregon Oats Company. Support local businesses and enjoy better service and better products!
